Japan arrests first person for selling AI-generated pornographic images
Four individuals aged between 20 and 50 have used AI to create images of naked women with inappropriate captions and sold them on auction websites.
Recently, Japanese police arrested four individuals for selling pornographic images created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This is the first arrest of its kind related to this type of crime.
Japanese media, citing police sources, reported that the four individuals, aged between 20 and 50, used AI to create images of naked women with inappropriate captions and sold them on online auction sites.
According to reports, the suspects sold these posters for several thousand yen each.
The police have not confirmed these details.
The case highlights growing global concerns about the misuse of AI, including through deepfakes, which manipulate real images, videos, or sounds of individuals to create highly realistic, fabricated media.
According to a 2019 study by Sensity, a Dutch AI company, approximately 96% of online deepfake videos contain pornographic content.
